Ellen + James | Engagement | Highline, NYC
With the holidays coming up and the weather getting cold fast we knew we had one shot to do Ellen + Jim’s engagement session either now or wait until next spring. Now was the correct answer. On a windy Saturday in November we made our way down to the city. Not to shoot the main attractions but for the intimate little spots that have been the bones and foundation of their relationship. The first stop was the sun-soaked High Line. With pockets of warmth on a chilly day, they cuddled and laughed. Their love keeping them warm, as well as a couple of small nips from a flask of whiskey.
We eventually made our way down to the Hudson Yard where James proposed to Ellen on a much warmer September day. They even showed me a little bar where they had a meal before he proposed. The grilled cheese sandwich was awesome, btw. Five stars.
Then it was on and off subway trains to make it down to a hidden little arcade that James found a while back. The lights and vibe of this little Chinatown arcade were so cool that this place could only exist in the city. They played some games, laughed, and competed in an epic showdown of skeeball and air hockey. We won’t tell James that Ellen let him win in air hockey though. That’s just our little secret. Then off to get coffee and a short walk to the train home where their cat Gumball was no doubt frustrated with the lack of treats being given by their absence.
Ellen + James have that old soul kind of love. That deep silent admiration that is expressed in a knowing smile, a gaze in the eyes, and Jim’s patent Jim Halpert expressions (see gallery below) that erupt everyone into laughter. As they plan their wedding, I would like to wish them the best and congratulate them on entering the next chapter of their lives. One that I have affectionately named “Jellen”
